This year, Human Rights Day is Saturday, December 10th. To advance the cause of the Eritreans, Everyone Group will be holding a Human Rights Rally at Lafayette Park, Washington, DC - in front of the White House from 10:00AM to 1:00PM. Their main objective is to tell the world about the suffering of the tens of thousands of young Eritreans who find themselves in the refugee camps of Sudan and Ethiopia, the prisons of Egypt and Libya, as well as the special circumstance of the very unfortunate few kept in the hands of human traffickers in the Sinai.

How Assad Stayed In Power - And How He'll Try to Keep It - Tony Badran (Foreign Affairs) If "Lebanon and Iran are our economic lungs," as one Syrian official recently put it, then "Russia is our political shield." For Russia, with long-established military ties to Damascus, Western pressure on Syria is an encroachment on its traditional sphere of influence. Syria also affords Russia a foothold in the Mediterranean through a shared naval maintenance facility at the Syrian port city of Tartus.

Israeli and Palestinian Statements about the "Damn Table"  (CAMERA) Defense Secretary Leon Panetta made headlines this week when he called on Israel to "just get to the damn [negotiating] table." The statement is peculiar, since Israel has pleaded with the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table while Palestinian leaders insist they won't do so unless Israel first satisfies their preconditions.
