Women Under Siege: Documenting sexualized violence in Syria (Women's Media Center) - a new project mapping sexualized violence in Syria through crowdsourcing launched last week. A part of The Women's Media Center's Women Under Siege project, the crowdmap collects the untold evidence of sexual assaults in real time as the Syrian crisis rages—before much of it is lost to shame and silence, as has happened too often during and after armed conflict. This initiative is working with refugee communities in countries bordering Syria to safely measure the exposure women may have had to sexualized violence. Survivors, witnesses, doctors, and human rights workers can report all degrees of sexual assault, its mental and physical consequences, and possible perpetrators via email (siege@womensmediacenter.com), Twitter (#RapeinSyria), or directly to the site. Our goal at the Women’s Media Center’s Women Under Siege project is to tell the underreported stories of women’s suffering in conflict. This effort will provide the media with a remarkable central resource to help them get out the message that these painful, important stories in Syria matter. “Using modern information technology to this end is very welcome,” said Margot Wallström, UN special representative of the secretary-general on sexual violence in conflict.

Hamas No Longer the Major Player in Gaza - Khaled Abu Toameh (Jerusalem Post)
-Islamic Jihad and the Popular Resistance Committees, the two groups who were behind the rocket and mortar attacks on Israel, have proven that Hamas is no longer the major player in Gaza. Hamas will now have to live with the fact that these two groups pose a challenge to its control over Gaza.
-On a number of occasions in the past, Hamas security forces did not hesitate to detain members of Islamic Jihad and the PRC who violated previous truces with Israel. Now, for the first time, Hamas refrained from taking action against the armed groups.
