One of the women promoted in the clip as role models for Arab women today is Dalal Mughrabi, famous for her terrorist attack that killed dozens of Israelis, and another, Al Khansa, who is famous for celebrating the Martyrdom deaths of her children. Veteran newsman assesses what's next for Al Qaeda, US war. Bergen argued that the 2011 "Arab spring" had already rendered Al Qaeda irrelevant to nearly the same extent bin Laden's death did. In contrast to the despairing tone that marked much of the week's coverage of US relations with Pakistan, Bergen emphasized that for all its problems Pakistan is an indispensable partner to the US at this time. Drawing on personal experience, he also noted that Pakistan is a notably freer environment than during the 1980s. Overall, Bergen seemed to view the death of bin Laden as a wholly positive event.

Regarding Pakistan, it has been an open secret—even published in the mass media—that the Pakistani government has sponsored terrorism and collaborated with al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Yet the U.S. government continued to pour money into the country. Consider the murderous attack on Mumbai, India. The group that conducted it operates from Pakistan with the knowledge of the authorities there. We're now supposed to be surprised that bin Laden was sheltering there? In an official press release, the Pakistani army simultaneously claims credit for killing UBL and criticizes the United States for doing so. And, once again, let me point out that al-Qaeda is a terrorist threat but not a strategic threat. The real problem is with revolutionary Islamists: Hamas, Hizballah, Iran, Syria, and the Muslim Brotherhood.
